Hip Hip Hooray Birthday

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Karen Aicken our challenge hostess for the month continues to issue the challenges.

Being the third Saturday of the month it is time for a sketch challenge.

As soon as I saw this sketch the first thing I thought about was the Sizzix Triple Circle  Flip-its Card die. I haven't used mine in ages and have been wanting to pull it out to play, so I decide to make it work for the sketch today. It isn't an exact match, but I think it is close enough.

To decorate the front of the card I added presents from a Neat & Tangled stamp set. I also added a strip of card across the middle of the card so it would match the strip in the sketch ... I did add some Nuvo Drops to the ends of mine.

When you "flip" the card open it reveals three different sentiments. The card is probably closer to the sketch when it is pulled completely open as then you have that middle layer. I forgot to take a photo of the card completely open.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

Celebrate 2018

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's my turn to post a tutorial on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog today. It's is just over 5 weeks until Christmas which means it is just over 6 weeks until the new year brings us 2018. Sometimes we need to send out New Years cards rather than Christmas cards to friends and family. So for my project  today I have a fairly simple New Years card using the new Stitched Stars die set and Silk Microfine Glitter.

Here's how I created my card:

Step 1 -
  • Cut a piece of black cardstock so it measures 4 1/4 inches x 11 inches. Score along the 11 inch side at 5 1/2 inches and fold to create a top folding card.
  • Using the second largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set, die cut a rectangle from gold cardstock.
  • Using the second largest rectangle from the Fitted Rectangles die set, die cut a rectangle from patterned paper.
  • Layer the patterned paper onto the gold cardstock and then add this panel to the folded card.
Step 2 -
  • Using the second smallest star from the Stitched Stars die set, die cut 4 stars from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
  • Remove the protective backing from the front of the stars and cover the adhesive with Desert Gold Silk Microfine Glitter. Return excess glitter to the jar and polish the glitter into the adhesive with your finger.
  • Using the smallest star from the Stitched Stars die set, die cut 4 stars from black cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • Adhere the small black stars to the centre of the glittered gold stars.

  • Adhere the stars to the front of the card using foam tape. (Refer to photo above.
  • Using the Numbers 1 & More die set, die cut the numbers 2018 from gold cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back.
  • Adhere the numbers to the stars.
Step 3 -
  • Apply Black & Gold Nuvo Drops randomly over the background of the card.

Step 4 - Inside of Card:

  • Using the second largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set, die cut a rectangle from gold cardstock.
  • Using the second largest rectangle from the Fitted Rectangles die set, die cut a rectangle from White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Layer the white cardstock onto the gold cardstock and then adhere this to the inside of card.
Step 5 -
  • Using the third largest star from the Stitched Stars die set, die cut a star from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
  • Remove the protective backing from the front of the stars and cover the adhesive with Desert Gold Silk Microfine Glitter. Return excess glitter to the jar and polish the glitter into the adhesive with your finger.
  • Using the third smallest star from the Stitched Stars die set, die cut the star from black cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Tape on the back.
  • Adhere the small black stars to the centre of the glittered gold stars.
  • Using the "Celebrate" from the A Way with Words - Happy Birthday Collection Clear Stamp set. Stamp the sentiment onto the centre of the black star using VersaMark ink, cover with gold embossing powder and heat emboss.
  • Adhere Star to the centre of the inside of card.
Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

You Matter to Me

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. Joanne Grzelak our challenge hostess for the month continues to issue the challenges.

Today is Joanne's birthday .... Happy Birthday Joanne!!!!!!!!! So she would love to see us make a feminine birthday card with flowers.

When I saw Concord & 9th's new Blooms Fill-In Clear Stamp set with coordinating dies when it was released last month, I knew it was one I needed to add to my collection. I love the bold look of this stamp set, and the amazing looks you get just by stamping the background and stamps different colors.

I am not sure if black is considered feminine, however I have seen a couple of people use this set stamping in black which I really loved so I had to try it for the first time I played with he set. The flowers themselves of course are pretty colors. I used Distress Oxides to stamp all the individual parts to the flowers.

For the base of my card I used Karen Burniston's Cupcake Pop-up die set, this is inspired by a couple of cards fellow Design Team mate Karen Aicken created. It is always good to be able to stretch your stamps/dies and use them for something other than they were intended which is what I did here.

Instead of adding a cupcake included in the Cupcake Pop-up die set, I covered the main part of the cupcake pop-up with the label which comes with the Blooms Fill-in die set. It definitely makes a statement! I added the "You Matter To Me" sentiment which is included in the Blooms Fill-In stamp set as well as die cutting and stamping a few flowers to match the background.

For the sentiment on the rectangle panel at the base of the pop up I used one of the sentiments from the Sentimental Too stamp set from Avery Elle. These work well on this panel, so I might be using some more for future cards.

For the front of the card I stamped a second background using the Concord & 9th Blooms Fill-In Stamp set. I used the snow border die from Karen Burniston's Nature Edges die set to cut the panel into two pieces. I also die cut a piece of green cardstock using the same die so I could add a small green border along the edge. I then adhered the panel down to the front of the card and added a birthday sentiment.

I added Raspberry Pink Nuvo Crystal Drops to the centres of the flowers and Autumn Red Gloss Nuvo Crystal Drops to all the berries on the background panel on the front and inside of the card which gives the panel a little texture.

Don't forget to check out the CCEE Stampers blog (goes live 12 AM EST) to see the rest of the creations the CCEE Stampers created this week. You can also see more details of their creations on their individual blogs:

Unforgettable

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing a card I made recently using a couple of the new dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

The background of this card was created using the new Kaleidoscope Background ... instead of using it as a die cut background, I decided to try the letterpress technique that Jennifer McGuire shared on her blog about a month ago.

The die normally cuts a panel 4 inches x 5 1/4 inches, however I wanted to create a square card. So after letter pressing the die cut onto watercolor paper, I then cut the panel into two pieces slightly lower than the centre mark and then layered this onto a piece of white card 5 1/4 inches square before laying on to pink cardstocks.

To hid the gap in the middle of the card I added stripe of pink card that I used the scallop border die from the Valentine Edges die set to create a fancy edge. I then added the A Way with Words - Unforgettable sentiment to the centre of the panel.

To finish off the card I added two flowers from the Blooms and Leaves Clear Stamp set with coordinating dies and leaves from the Blossom Time Clear Stamp set with coordinating dies.

For the inside of the card  have again used the scallop border from the Valentine Edges die set and add the "Be Yourself" sentiment from the A Way with Words - Be Brave Bold Yourself die set.

Skating By To Say Hi!

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our Paper Pros challenge for November. This month our challenge is hosted by Karen Aicken who as challenged us to make a Winter Birthday Card.

I decided to make another Tag Book Pop-up using the brand new die set from Karen Burniston .... I just can't stop using this die!!!!!!

Looking for something winter, I decided to pull out the cute Clearly Besotted On Thin Ice stamp set.

For the front of the tag book, I added two layers of snow to the lower part of the tag using the snow die from the Nature Edges die set and glitter. I added a sentiment from an older stamp set in my collection which has since retired.

For the inside I decorated the two outer tags using a snow border, trees and the mice.

For the two centre panels I added the border included in the Tag Book die set and sentiments.

Here is another view of the inside of my Tag Book

One last photo.

You can see what the other "Paper Pros" created for this challenge on their blogs:

Owl You Need Is Love

Hi Crafty Friends,

Owl's it Going????  Sorry I couldn't resist!!!

Today I am sharing another card using the new ModaScrap stamp sets, I just love this cute little owl! I have been wanting to play with this owl for ages, but time has just gotten away.

I have again used one of the grids from Susan's Garden  Garden Patch 1 inch & Mini Daisy & Chrysanthemum die set. These grids have so many uses.

This time around I trimmed out the middle grids from the bottom left hand corner of the grid and added a large white square for my owl. I added patterned paper to the top and side of the grid and layered this to a square from the Dotted Scallop Squares die set.

To finish off the front of the card I added Nuvo Drops to the centre of each of the small squares.

As you can see I have used the same layout for the inside of my card as I did for the front of the card.

I also added a sentiment which is from the "If Animals Could Talk" Clear Stamp set.

Popping Up to Say....

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing another Tag Book using the new Tag Book Pop-up die set from Karen Burniston. This was actually the first Tag Book I created when I received my dies recently.

To decorate my tag book I used an owl from the Build an Owl 2 stamp set from Prickley Pear. This stamp set also has a coordinating die which make it easy to cut out all the pieces for the owl. I love the pinecones on the owl's wings and top of it's head. This set has a lot of fun designs which you can use when creating your owl.

For the sentiment in the middle two square panels, I used the "Happy Holiday's" sentiment from the Word Set 3 - Holidays die set. I die cut a couple of extra 'o'ss and split the Holiday into two lines to create the word 'Hooo-liday'.

One more photo of the inside of my tag book.

For the front of my tag book, I added one more owl and also added the "Popping up to say" sentiment from the new Words Set 4 die set. I am sure I will be using this sentiment A LOT!!!!!! it will work with so many of the cards I like to create.

Supplies:

Stamps: Build an Owl 2 - Prickley Pear
Paper: White; Red; Green Always Christmas Paper Pad - Craft Smith
Dies: Tag Book Pop-up; Word Set 3; Word Set 4 - Karen Burniston; Build an Owl - Prickely Pear

Remember

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Karen Aicken our challenge hostess for the month continues to issue the challenges.

“Lest We Forget”  In Canada and Australia, today is Remembrance Day. From Wikipedia:  Remembrance Day (sometimes known informally as Poppy Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth of Nations member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. Following a tradition inaugurated by King George V in 1919,[1] the day is also marked by war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November in most countries to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month", in accordance with the armistice signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning.  Include Poppies on your card today, or make a card of gratitude and/or respect.

I love the ModaScrap Lacy Poppies die set from Elizabeth Craft Designs, so knew I had to use that for this week's challenge. I also used the ModaScrap Pair of Leaves 1 and the A Way with Words - Remember sentiment, which I thought worked perfectly for this challenge.

For the base of my card I created a U Fold Card, this is a fun style of card to make.

To create this I started with a piece of cardstock 22.5cm x 13cm and scored along the long edge at 3.5cm; 7cm; 15.5cm and 19cm. The panel on the front that the word "remember" is  on is 15.5cm. I normally change the height of the card depending on what I am putting in the "U" part of the card.

Here is another view of my card, looking down into the bottom of the card. I added two tabs to the bottom section so I could add addition poppies and leaves.

I also added black prills to the centre of the two full poppies.

And finally a look at my card when it is folded flat ready to be placed in an envelope.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

Ahoy Happy Birthday

Ahoy there Crafty Friends!

Today I am playing with one of the new ModaScrap stamp sets from Elizabeth Craft Designs. This card using the Sailor's Life Clear Stamp set with Coordinating dies as well as the Sailor's Life 12 x 12 Patterned Paper Pack. I adore these stamps from ModaScrap!!!!

To create my card I started by die cutting the grid from Susan's Garden - Garden Patch 1 1/2 " & Mini Roses die set from red cardstock and also from patterned paper and paper piecing the two together. I added three of the images from the stamp sets to the squares.

I combined the sentiment from the Ahoy Sentiments Clear Stamp set which works so well with this set and the Birthday Sentiments Clear Stamp set, die cutting the sentiment using the Stitched Fishtail Banners die set. I also added one more image from the stamp set above the sentiment.

To finish off the front of the card I added a few Nuvo Drops to the top right hand corner.

For the inside of the card, I used the inner squares from the red grid and used the patterned paper grid as a template so I could get the spacing right when I adhered the squares in place.

I added a stamped sentiment and image to each of the squares using black ink. I added one more sentiment to the centre of the white space on the top right hand side of the card and added the remaining image I had die cut the images.
